Console and game bundles aren't exactly a new concept, but it's not often we see one that lets you pick which game you get to receive alongside your shiny new machine. But that's exactly the deal you'll get with a recently announced PlayStation 4 holiday bundle, giving buyers a selection of four titles to pick from to complete their “starter set.”
Announced via the PlayStation Blog, the latest PS4 bundle will set you back $399.99, and includes a copy of one of four games as a digital download for good measure. You can go with the hugely popular first-person shooter, Destiny, another big FPS, Far Cry 4, the sportsball title NBA 2K15 or, for the young or young at heart, LittleBigPlanet 3. The console included in the package is the standard 500 GB model.
Once you buy the new console from participating retailers, you'll be able to go to a special website to pick which game you want to begin your collection with. You'll have to plug in information to prove you purchased the console, of course, and be rewarded with a voucher code for the title of your choosing. From there, all you have to do is pop onto the PlayStation Store, input the code and get to downloading.
“We are super excited to launch this bundle just in time for the holidays, as it really offers something for everyone,” said SCEA VP of Platforms Marketing, John Koller. “For those of you who haven’t yet jumped into the PS4 world – now’s the time. And for those that are already PS4 owners – spread the love and engage in a little friendly competition. We hope you’ll enjoy this holiday season with lots of gaming time with your friends and family.”
Now, let's take a quick look at those four games, for the uninitiated.
NBA 2K15 is probably the easiest place to start, as it's the annual digital representation of that fancy basketball game you can watch on your television. This year's version of the game includes shiny new graphics, more realistic gameplay and modes that should keep you busy for hours on end both on and off the court.
If you like the idea of playing a charming platformer with friends and family members, then you'll want to check out LittleBigPlanet 3. If you're also interested in creating your own levels with said loved ones, then you absolutely can't pass this one up. The game comes with a full campaign to explore and a ridiculously robust set of creation tools, as well as access to thousands upon thousands of player-created levels, including all of the levels built for previous versions of the game.
Finally, what modern console experience would be complete without a bit of shooting? Destiny is an online-focused affair from the folks behind Halo, boasting a handful of massive, interconnected maps, loads of gear and challenging missions for you to tackle solo or with friends. Far Cry 4 has a heavier emphasis on the single player experience, with shooting, crafting and exploration taking center stage.
So, there you have it. Buy the console, pick one of four games, get to playing. Happy holidays.
