Moby Dick released new screenshots of the upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 title, Phantom Pain. The screenshots represent actual gameplay footage, according to what was said at this year's Spike TV VGAs. Graphically the game looks exceptional and would mark a whole new technological milestone for today's gen consoles.

No information has been released about the game other than what was revealed during the VGA unveil video and it seems to go against the trend of releasing new IP at the end of a console's life cycle. Still, Moby Dick has gone on ahead and put a lot of time and effort into this game as showcased by the trailer.

Given that there's no real info on the title, we can only make assumptions based on the screenshots. So the main protagonist is a guy with a missing arm. It'll probably get replaced with a weapon of some sort later on. It looks like it might take place in an alternate 1980s maybe, given that hospitals no longer use phones like that and the seating looks pretty old-school.

Then again, based on the statue out front it looks like it could be somewhere over in Russia maybe. It's hard to tell. Anyway, the weapons are the only thing that's throwing me. The soldiers appear to be using modified Mac-10s, so it's still possible that it could be an alternate 1980s but...who knows?

Anyway, enjoy the screenshots below. Phantom Pain is set for release presumably sometime in mid-2013 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, otherwise it could end up getting swallowed up by bigger games set for release on next-gen consoles in fall 2013.
