A new trailer has gone live for Project CARS courtesy of a community member who spliced together some fancy schmancy footage and slapped a hip new song onto the trailer in order to get gamers all revved up and excited...and it sort of worked.

Not to void impartiality here, but I can't help but feel that the trailer wallows in the greater shadow of Jonz. Sean Barron does a good job directing the action and keeping things moving at a steady pace. The footage of the go-karts are probably the most exciting and the laid back alternative pop-rock helps satiate the experience with a mellow tone.

Unfortunately, I think that Project CARS is the sort of game that better benefits from a little bit more pageantry and theatricality. Trailers set to the sounds of Awolnation's Sail or the “Hurricane” themed clips from Jonz really help set Project CARS apart from all the competition, especially the AAA players. I still think the best trailer for the game so far has been the Taming of the Wild featuring music from Radiohead; unbelievably good stuff.

Project CARS is still heavy in development for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U by veteran racing game designers, Slightly Mad Studios. Given a minor hiccup in development due to a financial investigation from the former FSA, the game is set for release in early 2014 and is a crowd-funded indie title...yes, a crowd-funded indie title looks that good. Amazing, right? Well you can learn more by paying a kind visit to the game's official website.
