This is not the Blend Games weekly battle bout. There will not be three rounds between these two. This is simply a weekend treat with a comparative look at two first-person shooters, exclusive to two different consoles. And since it wasn’t really possible to compare screens in our weekly battle between Resistance 2 and Gears 2, we thought it would be a great idea to compare the graphics of one console exclusive FPS to another.

Now for the purpose of quick-comparisons, there are 640x360 screens between the descriptive text. But for the unfiltered details you hardcore gamers crave in comparisons...those screenshots are below, and they are quite big. So brace yourselves.

Resistance 2

Here we have Resistance 2 screens, and they are beautiful, no? A lot of lighting detail and sharp contrasts within the environment give the game a surreal look that encapsulates a classic era within a futuristic setting. Very, very nice. The guns, in particular, have strange amounts of unparalleled detail. The guns look so real with the parallax textures that it almost seems like Insomniac pasted real-life, high-def pictures into the game. It’s amazing to think that they’re even 3D models.

Halo 3

Surprisingly enough, Halo 3 really does hold its own in this comparison. While many gamers would be quick to pinpoint dated graphics or shoddy textures in the third and final game in the Halo trilogy, it actually doesn’t look bad when measured up against its PS3 rival. The lighting is slightly darker, with a little less contrast in the realtime lighting department (i.e., making it more difficult to see smaller details) but the dynamic presentation and bloom effects of the atmosphere more than makes up for it. Texture wise, Halo 3 offers up some nice competition for R2, despite being a year old.

Both games look great. I would personally have to give the edge to Resistance 2, though. I think it’s slightly more immersive, and a little less glowy. You can view the screenshots for both games below in their high-res state, just to see how Resistance 2 measures up on all [graphical] fronts.
