Miracle Kidz, a studio founded by the original designers of River City Ransom, has begun work on a sequel. They expect to release it later this year.

The studio told Impress Watch (via Siliconera) that Ransom 2 will hit consoles in the summer. They didn't specify which consoles, though. An online PC version is also being prepared but won't be out until next year.

River City Ransom was a beat 'em up released for the NES back in 1989. The really unique thing about it was the role-playing game style progression. Defeated enemies dropped money, which you could spend to upgrade your character's stats or learn new abilities.
