ChAIR's highly regarded 3D side-scrolling action game, Shadow Complex Remastered, is gearing up for release on the Sony PlayStation 4. The Unreal Engine-powered action game is set to arrive on the popular home console starting May 3rd.

Donald Mustard, the co-founder and creative director at ChAIR, made the announcement about the game coming to the PS4 over on the PlayStation blog. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

Shadow Complex Remastered originally released on PC for free as part of a promotion for the Unreal Engine 4, and later it arrived on the Xbox One. Gamers will soon be able to get their hands on the 2.5D shooter on the PlayStation 4, which includes the standard 10 hour campaign mode, the non-linear level exploration that's based on Konami's iconic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and weapon upgrades and enhancements similar to Nintendo's Super Metroid.

ChAIR's Shadow Complex made waves many years ago when it first released on the Xbox 360 to critical acclaim and some rocking sales. Gamers are now able to experience an updated and upgraded game that features all the fan-favorite content and some new features like the brand new bonus Proving Grounds mode, designed to help players hone their skills and take on various challenges, as well as the all new dynamic take-downs. The new melee feature allows players to get in close and take out opponents with some cool new animated attacks. They briefly show them off in the announcement trailer above.

The game isn't entirely all about side-scrolling, run-and-gun action, there are also some over-the-shoulder shooting action where players will man turret guns and just blast the crap out of anything in their way.

The plot of the game is pretty bare bones, with players out to stop the bad guys and rescue the main character's girlfriend, but the gameplay is what set Shadow Complex apart from so many other games out there.

Now that the game is running on the Unreal Engine 4, we see that there are all new visual effects in play, along with improved performance, better use of shaders, advanced shadow mapping and smoother use of the rag-doll effects.

A lot of gamers have been excited about the remastered edition of Shadow Complex, especially given that there was a lot of love for ChAIR's unique blend of new technologies with old concepts, similar to how they handled the Infinity Blade series, which is a mix of screen-swiping tactics with classic hack-and-slash gameplay. Sometimes you don't need to reinvent the wheel to have a big seller, you just have to polish that wheel up nice and neat.

If you haven't already picked up Shadow Complex Remastered for the Xbox One or PC, you can look to grab a digital copy of the game on the PS4 starting May 3.
