In the age of the interwebz nothing is safe. Sega's upcoming Sonic 4 Episode II was on the receiving end of an unfortunate media leak, which actually happens to be fortunate for gamers.

The leak comes courtesy of a mishap on the Xbox Live Marketplace where the screenshots of the game and box art were inadvertently put online. Shortly thereafter the screenshots and box art were removed from the Marketplace.

Given that there's always someone who keeps a sharp on these things, it wasn't long before the screens appeared on NeoGaf, and thanks to XBLA Fans the shots have now spread like wildfire across the internet.

Sonic 4 Episode II picks up after Episode I and Sonic must call on the help of Tails to help him defeat Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic across four brand new zones and special stages that harkens back to the days of Sonic 2, which had some of the best special stages ever featured in a Sonic game. A few of those zones are on display in the shots below and cooperative play is now a much bigger factor in Episode II. Hopefully the co-op is closer to Sonic 3 than Sonic 2, where poor 'ole Tails would get left behind rather quickly and didn't provide much help to Sonic at all.

You can check out the new screenshots for the game below and we'll keep you posted on when Sonic 4 Episode II launches.
