Ubisoft is about to start showing off the multiplayer for Splinter Cell: Blacklist. A new teaser video from the company says that the first footage from "Spies versus Mercs" will debut on May 2nd.

"Spies versus Mercs" is a team-based multiplayer experience that appeared in Splinter Cell: Double Agent and other older entries in the series. Players take on the role of spies or mercenaries and attempt to complete opposing objectives. The spies must rely on stealth and gadgets to complete their mission, while mercenaries carry heavy firepower.

Long-time Splinter Cell fans have heaped a lot of criticism upon Blacklist due to its heavy action elements. Protagonist Sam Fisher can call in airstrikes or kill multiple enemies on the move. In subsequent trailers, Ubisoft has tried to play up the stealth elements. A thoughtful "Spies vs. Mercs" mode that emphasizes careful, stealthy gameplay would help silence those critics.

Blacklist was announced last summer. Ubisoft confirmed at the time that "Spies vs. Mercs" was making a comeback, but that's all they've said about the multiplayer thus far. It's not clear SvM will be the only online component to the game.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist will arrive on Wii U, Xbox 360, PC and PS3 this August.
