Despite what those photos of random Best Buy release date signs tell you, there's no Final Fantasy 7 remake coming out for Playstation 3. Not on Saturday, and possibly not...ever.

Photos of signs stating that the 1998 RPG would be released on PS3 on August 16th made their rounds on the Interwebz last week and, naturally, people went ape shit. IGN contacted Square Enix, who cleanly shot down the rumor. The response was basically, "what the hell are you talking about?" so it doesn't look like they have an FF7 remake planned, period.

For future reference, a Best Buy employee is more likely to botch a line of copy on a release date sign than an entire video game company is to completely fail to advertise a remake of its best-selling RPG. Trust me, they wouldn't just spring this on you. Square knows how ridiculously popular that FF7 is - they've made two films and four more games based off it.

Sorry if that came off as cruel but I guess I just don't "get it" when it comes to the FF7 remake frenzy. It's not like the game was made for Neo Geo or some shit; it came out for PC and PSOne (making it backwards compatible on PS2 and PS3). Take five minutes and search eBay or Amazon for a copy; you'll probably end up paying more than you would have back in 1998 but think of all the internet-griping time you'll save.
