Thomas Jane and Tim Bradstreet's Raw Entertainment is home to the indie comic Bad Planet. They were recently approached by indie game studio Red Fly Studios, best known for Ghostbuster: The Video Game, Thor and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to make a game based on Bad Planet, using Kickstarter.
It's hard for me to be objective in the sense of saying "Hey, this is another Kickstarter. Like it or not, it's just a game, blah, blah, blah" when one of my favorite actors is attached to the project. Heck, it's The Punisher for crying out freaking loud! (and yes, I know, Ray Stevenson was more badass as the Punisher but Thomas Jane was the better overall Punisher). I would suggest people support the project for that reason alone. But I understand not everyone is a fanboy about these things and they need a bit of convincing. For non-fanboys, you can watch the convince-worthy Kickstarter video below. For purebred fanboys, just skip to the bottom, click on the link and donate what you can.
That seems so awesome.
There's also this itching feeling I can't shake that keeps giving me the impression that the game might turn out like Rebellion Studios' Rogue Trooper, which was also based on a comic book. It was an all right game and played itself mostly for camp.
However, with Bad Planet I can imagine this game being slightly grittier, a little less campier and possibly on the line of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, which sort of sounds like the kind of route they want to go with the game.
Now, here's where we talk a little bit about what wasn't featured in the video. The game will be released in installments (assuming it gets funded), similar to The Walking Dead games from TellTale. Also, Bad Planet will originally launch on PC and from there, if it's successful (and if it lands on Steam it will be successful) there will be console ports to the PSN and XBLA. I find it funny that the PC gets the real version and the consoles might get a PC port. That's hilarious.
You can learn more about Bad Planet the game or the comic or Raw Entertainment or Red Fly Studios by paying a visit to the Official Bad Planet Kickstarter Page. Thomas Jane and Tim Bradstreet will also be at the San Diego Comic Con during the RAW Studio panel, Saturday night at 7:30pm in room 26A/B. So be sure to check it out.
