At a time when several companies are trimming down or closing shop altogether, Ubisoft is expanding. Today they revealed that they're going to open a new studio in Toronto.
Ubisoft Toronto will be the fourth Ubisoft studio in Canada. Ubisoft plans to invest $500 million in the new location and they expect it will lead to the creation of 800 new jobs. The studio will open later this year.
The press release mentions that Ubisoft Toronto "will work on Triple-A games" and "build on the city’s existing experience with the film production industry." In the past, Ubisoft has stated its intentions to create special effects for films.
