Activision revealed today that they will be publishing a first-person shooter based on The Walking Dead. Walking Dead is a prequel to the events of the television show and stars the Dixon brothers, everyone's favorite gun-toting rednecks.
The game takes place right after the start of the zombie outbreak. Daryl and Merle Dixon hear a rumor that there's a safe zone in Atlanta and set out on a dangerous journey to the city. Players take on the role of Daryl and can either sneak by zombies or fight them. The zombies will be able to detect you with sight, sound, or smell so I hope your ninja skills aren't too rusty.
You won't just be able to murder every zombie you see, though. Ammunition will be in short supply, along with food and other items. Managing your resources is a key to survival.
Like the television show or adventure game, the Walking Dead shooter presents you with difficult moral choices. On their journey, Merle and Daryl will encounter a number of other characters, some hostile and some friendly. It's up to you to decide how to deal with them.
Terminal Reality is the developer of the project. They're the company responsible for the so-so Ghostbusters: The Video Game. This game seems unlike anything else they've worked on before. The mixture of stealth, survival, and shooter genres sounds interesting so hopefully they can execute the idea well.
Walking Dead will arrive on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2013. The first teaser trailer is below.
