What better way to get people in the mood to kick some vile xenomorphic butt than by showing you a bunch of dead soldiers and splattered humans while the voice of Optimus Prime tells you that you ought to start thinking about doing something about the alien infestation and you need to open up a can of whoop-butt? There is no better way!
Technically it's not actually Optimus Prime but rather an impersonation of Peter Cullen, best known for Optimus Prime and uh....well, Optimus Prime, from veteran voice actor Jon Bailey. Bailey lends his heroic and fatherly Optimus Prime impersonation to the latest trailer for XCOM, the upcoming action-oriented strategy reboot of the popular Micropose game from way back in the day.
With Civilization developer FireAxis Games at the helm and 2K Games taking a more cautious approach to the content than their previous XCOM game, it's completely and entirely possible that Enemy Unknown could be a smash sleeper hit for the ages. Check it out below.
I'm digging it.
I'm just not liking the six soldier limit (man, I hope the modders find a way to bump this up to 20 or 30). Otherwise the destructible environments, the high-tech weaponry, the no-holds-barred skirmishes seem like a nice throwback to what made the original game so fun.
The fact that your members can die for good makes this a real title worth watching. The original X-Com's fun-factors resided in the difficulty and if this trailer is being honest (and let's hope it is) then it means that players will be in for a real treat with the upcoming title for home consoles and PC.
You can look for FireAxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown to launch for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 9th. Pre-orders are currently available right now. You can learn more by paying a visit to the game's Official Website.
