'24' to become '2'

Ask most people what their top 5 or 10 shows on TV right now are and, if that person is of sound mind and body, they'll hopefully have at least one specific Fox show in that list. That show should NOT be "Bones", it should be "24".

The adventures of Jack Bauer have made for some of the best, most exciting TV in recent times. It was one of the first shows to really bring a big budget, theatrical feel to a show, with its big name supporting cast cameos and high production values, plus its complicated plotting, 'no-supporting-character-is-inexpendible' philosophy and innovative real-time concept has upped the ante for TV production, reflected in subsequent shows like "LOST".

Long long ago I remember reporting a rumour that producer Joel Surnow was planning to try and compress the real-time adventures into a theatrical outing. It sounded like a crazy idea but if they could pull it off it could make for one kick-ass action flick. Now Kiefer Sutherland is adding his 2 cents to the mix and at the same time calling out all the producers of ridiculous juvenile shows like "Bones" and "Prison Break" at the same time:

"It can be an amazing series of movies," Sutherland said. "One of the things I've experienced making this show is that an audience can handle a lot more than we thought when we started — the tension, the anxiety.... If we could [compress] all the energy we spread over 24 hours of programming and put that into 2, I think we'd knock your socks off."

Of course, season five of "24" starts on Sunday so it's entirely possibly Sutherland is just toying with the audience to generate some buzz, but it's certainly an interesting prospect.
