Bill Hader, Kate Hudson Lending Voices To DreamWorks Animation's Me And My Shadow

Saturday Night Live funny man Bill Hader hit a home run when voicing Flint Lockwood in the clever Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. And while we’re all still holding out hope for a sequel to that delicious treat, Hader’s keeping his vocal chords primed with a voice-over performance in DreamWorks Animation’s Me & My Shadow.

Hader joins Kate Hudson and The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad in the vocal ensemble, THR reports. The film will be helmed by Alessandro Carloni, the head of story on DreamWorks’s How to Train Your Dragon, and produced by Kung Fu Panda 2's Melissa Cobb.

Conceived in-house, Me & My Shadow will follow a shadow (voiced by Hader) who dreams of separating from his humdrum owner, Stanley Grubb (Gad). Here’s where things get bizarre: when a crime occurs in the shadow world, “Shadow” Stanley has to take control of the real Stanley before both of their lives are ended. Hudson, meanwhile, will voice the potential love interest, though I can’t tell if it's for real Stanley or his shadow version.

The trade says that the production team will blend CG and traditional, hand-drawn animation. They’ve already circled a Nov. 13, 2013 release date, putting it up against Thor 2 (which planted itself on Nov. 15, 2013 a few weeks back). I have to say, I love that it’s an original story and not something based on a popular comic book, cartoon or classic fairy tale. Bring on Me & My Shadow, which sounds like a lot of fun.
