New Cars Trailer Announced And Described

Disney has announced that their newest trailer for Cars is getting a banner release. In an effort to get you excited they're making a big deal out of listing all the places you'll be able to see the new footage when it debuts tomorrow night, Thursday March 9th. I'd rerun the list here except it's really long. Basically, if you have basic cable, are staying at a Disney Resort, are an AOL subscriber or are otherwise purchasing services from anyone remotely affiliated with Disney you'll have a chance to see it.

Otherwise you can wait a couple of hours and likely see it somewhere else on the internet. I'm guessing if you're desperate you'll be able to see it before The Shaggy Dog which opens the day after in theaters everywhere. I saw it with my preview screening and I'll tell you you're not missing anything if you're not part of the elite group of Disney patrons who will get first chops.

The footage expands our understanding of the storyline a bit by revealing the love story. C'mon, what Disney animated movie doesn't somehow involve a love interest? Even Mulan snuck one in there despite the fact that the couple never kissed. Come to think of it, I don't know if we'll see the cars kiss either. Sure, they have lips, but wouldn't they be worried about scratching those shiny bumpers?

Anyway, we're introduced to a lovely female Porsche who immediately captures the eye of the movie's main character Lightning McQueen. Even though he's a race car she's out to show him the joys of the slower-paced life. She's a sassy little number with the kind of attitude and wit that can put a showoff like McQueen in his place. We get a picture of that in the trailer as the two playfully meander along a quiet mountain highway. Think of the Simba/Nala "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" scene from Lion King but on four wheels instead of four paws.

In my humble opinion the trailer isn't quite as funny as the latest teaser (it's tough to top a military vehicle poking fun at a stoner VW van) and it's certainly not worth subscribing to STARZ for it. If you really feel the need to be in, just grab one of those AOL CDs out of your trash can. I hear your first 250,000 hours are free.
