Doomsday May Appear In Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

It’s going to be a long two years between now and the 2016 release of Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Not only because we are dying to finally see the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight go toe-to-toe. But also because we’re going to have to wade through a river of rumors regarding every possible hero, villain and supporting character who may show up in this movie because it’s believed that Batman v. Superman is building to a much bigger Justice League movie.

This story very likely is untrue – unless it’s a brief cameo tease, which we’ll talk about in a second – but it’s worth reporting, in case it somehow turns out to be legit. But the folks over at BleedingCool are quoting sources as saying character designs for Doomsday have been spied, and the massive, hulking villain is "planned to appear" in the superhero blockbuster.

You know, alongside Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), maybe Aquaman (Jason Momoa), possibly Mr. Zsasz… you get the point. There’s already going to be a boatload of characters in Zack Snyder’s developing movie, and unless he plans a four-hour epic, there just won’t be enough screen time for everyone already mentioned AND Doomsday.

For those who are unaware, Doomsday was introduced in the comic books "Superman: The Man of Steel" issues 17 and 18. He’s best known as the villain who finally "killed" Superman at the end of an epic battle, though the hero’s demise was short-lived (obviously).

Doomsday is an unstoppable, lethal machine. He’d be a tremendous on-screen presence, and I don’t doubt that Warner Bros., DC Comics and Zack Snyder will want to use him in a movie somewhere down the line. In fact, I’d relate Doomsday to Thanos, the villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who is SO powerful, he needs all of these heroes to unite to stop him, because Superman and Batman can not slow him down individually.

So is it possible that Doomsday shows up in an end-credits tease at the end of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, leading into the Justice League movie that Snyder also is supposed to direct? Yes. It’s possible. But unlikely right now. Stay tuned. Maybe we’ll know more after Comic-Con. But the rumor is out there. Mull it over.
