Walden Media’s family comedy Familymoon has a director, which means if casting moves along swiftly enough, the film, which is being produced by Dan in Real Life’s Brad Epstein, could begin production early next year, as is hoped.

Familymoon was written by Dave Collard (Family Guy) and follows a “perpetual bachelor” who gets married to a single mom of two kids. Rather than setting off on a romantic honeymoon for two, the couple and the kids take off on a family vacation. Naturally, things don’t go as planned, as is often the case in movies about family vacations.

Variety reports that The Upside of Anger director Mike Binder has been brought on board to direct the film, which, in addition to Epstein, is being co-produced by Binder’s former assistant Rachel Zimmerman. As Variety notes, Binder’s involvement in previous films that focus on family drama (The Upside of Anger, Reign Over Me) and the vacation-themed Indian Summer does give him some experience in the area for a film like this.

It’ll be interesting to see who is cast to play the role of the former-bachelor and his bride. Given Brad Epstein’s involvement, I’m inclined to guess Dane Cook (Dan in Real Life) could be a good fit for the role of the groom, considering he’s at about the right age for a role like this, and it’s easy to picture him playing a once-bachelor/new-dad of two.
