First Oblivion Poster Takes You To A Distant Future

Given that Oblivion, the new sci-fi action film from director Joseph Kosinski starring Tom Cruise, is coming out in April, it's rather surprising that we haven't seen a trailer yet. Movies like Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Lone Ranger, which aren't out until May, May and July, respectively, have all revealed their first footage already, but we still remain in the dark about Oblivion. But now we may see a light at the end of the tunnel. Posters and trailers typically come in pairs, and today we're happy to deliver the first one-sheet.

IGN has debuted the first poster design for the new movie, and has also revealed that the trailer will be online this Sunday, December 9th. Check out the artwork below and head over to the source to see it in high-res.

Is anyone else getting tired of the "lone hero looking into the medium distance" design for posters? The Dark Knight did it, Star Trek Into Darkness just did it, and now we have it again here. Come on, Hollywood - you can do better.

Set in a distant future where mankind has been forced into space after the destruction of Earth, Oblivion tells the story of a soldier (Cruise) who is forced to return to our home planetto help destroy what remains of the alien race that drove the humans out. But when he meets a group of people who are still surviving on the surface he begins to question everything that he's been told. The terrific supporting cast includes Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Zoe Bell, Melissa Leo, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The movie will be getting a special IMAX release on April 12, 2013 before opening everywhere on April 19th. For more, head over to our Blend Film Database.
