The two competing Linda Lovelace biopics aren't the only movies about the porn industry that will be arriving in theaters soon. In addition to the projects, which star Amanda Seyfried and Malin Akerman, there is also Cherry, the new film from writer/director Stephen Elliott. But while that particular project doesn't have the support of being a true story about a famous starlet, it does have an awesome cast that includes James Franco, Dev Patel, Lili Taylor, and Heather Graham. You may remember that we first wrote about the project last May and today it has a brand new trailer (via First Showing).
Check it out below.
It is a bit weird that this film has both Franco and Graham, as the former is set to play Hugh Hefner in one of the aforementioned Lovelace biopics, which Graham, of course, famously played Rollergirl in Paul Thomas Anderson's brilliant Boogie Nights. Even stranger is that their respective characters don't seem to be too far from those that they've played, with Franco playing a guy who represents the young starlet lead while Graham is a retired porn star who has moved into the world of directing.
The film stars Ashley Hinshaw as Angelina, a young high school student who gets turned on to nude modeling so that she can make some extra cash. This is only the first step of her downward spiral, however, as she and her best friend (Patel) run away to San Francisco. While there she meets a coke-addicted young lawyer (Franco) who gets her involved in the porn industry. The film is the first for Elliot, who was previously employed as a sex worker and is an accomplished author, his most famous book being The Adderall Diaries.
Cherry is playing at the Berlin Film Festival, however, it does not yet have distribution in the United States.
