First Trailer For Sleeping Beauty Is Not What You'd Expect

One of the hottest trends going right now is "dark fairy tales." Alice in Wonderland destroyed at the box office last year, there are three separate Snow White stories in development, and two potential Peter Pan movies. The word "dark" is relative, however, and judging by the first trailer for Sleeping Beauty, a whole new bar has been set.

The film, directed by Julia Leigh, is a much different interpretation of the story we've always heard. How different? In this story, the lead character is a prostitute at a brothel who takes sleeping pills, passes out, lets guys do whatever they want to her, and when she wakes up she has no idea that anything happened. The film stars Emily Browning, Michael Dorman, Mirrah Foulkes, and Rachel Blake.

Check out the trailer below.

Though obviously a very different kind of movie, I must say that it's a bit weird that this is coming out right after the release of Sucker Punch. Emily Browning must have been going through a phase. That said, this is one seriously beautiful trailer. The concept behind the film is screwed up beyond belief, but at least they made something artistic out of it.
