Baz Luhrmann’s larger-than-life retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famously soapy and affecting novel, The Great Gatsby, has finally nabbed a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download release date, along with a special extended trailer that is similar to the one fans got to see prior to the film’s theatrical release. The trailer takes us through some of the most remarkable moments in the film before getting to the ultimate release date. Fans of the film will be able to own it in a variety of formats, including a Blu-ray 3D combo pack, a Blu-ray combo pack, a 2-disc DVD Special Edition set, or via digital download beginning on August 27.

Since I’ve seen the film trailer and the movie itself, the most striking thing that caught my eye about the trailer is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s new way of marketing, which truly stresses to me how close we are to the DVD being dead (and probably even the Blu-ray 3D format for that matter). According to the company, fans of the movie can “look for it on Blu-ray and Download to own.” Sure, all of the other formats are still available for the outliers, but it’s the Blu-ray and the digital copies that the company should be pushing moving forward.

If you are planning on getting your hands on any of the physical copies of the film, which tells a tale of love, loss, and betrayal all set against the backdrop of wealth during the Jazz Age, you can’t really go wrong with any set you choose. While The Great Gatsby is a film that looks good in 3D and should pop on home TVs with HD-quality picture, whether you choose either of those routes or a DVD copy will yield the same bonus features, and there are quite a lot of them with the set.

According to press release, there are over 90 minutes of extras with the set, including featurettes that look at the soundtrack (which features artists like Jay-Z,, and Lana Del Ray), the fashion, the era, the characters, and even the book The Great Gatsby is based on. You can check out the full list of extras, below.
