Have Jean-Claude Van Damme And Chuck Norris Officially Joined The Expendables 2 Cast?

Ever since The Expendables made nearly $275 million at the international box office, fans have been curious as to how the 80s throwback action film would get even bigger for the sequel. It's been established that much of the cast will be returning - including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, and Randy Couture - but who will be joining them? Some big names have come up in conversation, but now it looks like two of them may be set.

IGN has discovered a page on the Millennium Films website that seems to suggest that Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris have officially joined the cast of The Expendables 2. CEO of NU Boyana studios David Varod recently confirmed in an interview that the two actors had signed on, but a third actor he mentioned, John Travolta, is not listed on the page. The studio site also says that Scott Adkins has joined the cast and that both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will reprise their roles from the first film.

Set with an August 17, 2012 release date, the sequel will be helmed by Con Air director Simon West, with the script being written by Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys and Curious George) and David Agosto. The plot revolves around the team of mercenaries swearing vengeance against the people responsible for killing Tool, the character played by Mickey Rourke in the first film.

There's really no reason for either Norris or Van Damme not to be in The Expendables 2. Norris hasn't actually done anything since 2005 and while JCVD does have a few small projects lined up, none of them could boost his career quite like a sequel to one of last year's blockbusters. It's hard to know if this is official word or just wishful thinking on the studios part, but as soon as we know, we'll let you know.
