Hero Blend #15: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Reviewed

It was only about a month ago that we saw the first comic book movie of 2014 head to theaters, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier taking the global box office by storm. Now that we have reached May and the start of the summer blockbuster season, however, we can expect a regular stream of them to start coming out over the next few months. Kicking things off is Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which has done its part to already become one of the most divisive movies of the year.

Based on a screenplay by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the Spider-Man sequel begins as Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) works to find a way to find a balance between his personal life – being with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), graduating from high school, and the return of his childhood best friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) – while also performing his responsibilities as a superhero. The strong cast also includes Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, B.J. Novak, Sarah Gadon, Felicity Jones, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, and Colm Feore

This week’s episode of Hero Blend is entirely dedicated to a review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the movie makes a very interesting subject for debate. While my own opinion of the film was rather mixed - with the negatives ultimately outweighing the positives, my guest this week is Cinema Blend Movie Content Director Sean O’Connell, who may very well be the world’s biggest fan of this rebooted franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in theaters tonight at midnight, and you can find more episodes of Hero Blend right here.
