It’s always great to hear that supremely talented directors will soon be working with just as skilled actors and actresses. So the news that Darren Aronofsky will directing both Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in an upcoming project should have cinephiles rejoicing in celebration. And it now sounds as though the proposed film has found a home with Paramount Pictures, even though we’re still none the wiser about what it will actually be called.

Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky decided to pair together for the film a couple of months back, while Variety’s sources have confirmed that Javier Bardem is now currently in discussions to join the project and co-star alongside Lawrence.

Representatives for Paramount, Aronofsky, and Bardem refused to confirm these talks, but the idea of the director of Requiem For A Dream working with the Oscar winning talent of No Country For Old Men and Silver Linings Playbook is enough for any self-respecting movie fan to start praying that it will soon become a reality.

But what do we actually know about the mysterious film? Well, not a lot. Except that it will revolve around a couple whose relationship is put to the test when a group of uninvited guests arrive in their home and then destroy their tranquil existence. Also, the current plan is for it to start shooting in the spring of 2016, before it’s finally released in 2017.

I’m going to guess that Jennifer Lawrence will play one half of the couple whose relationship is tested, and I’m also going to predict that Javier Bardem will take the part of one of the uninvited guests who turns up at the home. However, I am more than happy to be wrong, because the thought of Bardem and Lawrence playing a married couple is just as exciting too. In fact, everything about the trifecta involved sounds delightful.

Darren Aronofsky is in line to write, direct, and produce the film, which he will do through his Protozoa Pictures company, alongside Ari Handel and Scott Franklin. The trio originally took their idea to New Regency, who Darren Aronofsky has a first-look deal with. However, the studio was unable to match Paramount’s proposed deal, which was made when the film first came to market.

The Fountain, Black Swan, and Pi director has been weighing up his next film for quite a while, with his last effort coming back in 2014 with the biblical epic Noah. That proved to be quite a success for Aronofsky, as it grossed $362.6 million. After weighing up his options, Darren Aronofsky settled on the untitled film, and quickly sought Jennifer Lawrence for the leading part.

The pair sat down, talked about their ideas, and clearly chimed together because she soon agreed to star. Darren Aronofsky then went after Javier Bardem, as he was his first choice for another role, and after Jennifer Lawrence agreed they offered it to him.

Now let’s just hope that the trio can deliver a film that is worthy of their combined talents. No pressure there.
