The Farrelly brothers' Three Stooges movie has been going through hell to get made, with actors like Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Jim Carrey and Paul Giamatti (though not really) all flip-flopping back and forth. Most recent reports have shown that Penn is currently attached to the film, as is Del Toro, but Carrey remains a question mark - until now.
MTV caught up with the actor who not only confirms that he is definitely not doing the project, but also suggests that it may have folded all-together. Explaining why he decided to not take the project, it turns out that it was the weight gain that scared him off and he was unwilling to wear prosthetics.
"For me, I don't really want to do anything halfway, and I don't feel like a fat suit does it. I started experimenting with it a little bit, and I gained 35, 40 pounds. I wanted to gain another 30, 40. When you're [Robert] De Niro in your 20s or early 30s, you can kind of come back from that. It's a tough thing to come back from when you're upwards of 30. Your body can't carry it or you can have a cardiac arrest."
Fearing for one's own health is most certainly a reason not to take on a movie role, but I'm wondering if Carrey should have a sit down with Christian Bale who will turn 37 in January. As for the comments regarding the project's future, Carrey was fairly vague, saying "I think it's dead. It's dead at least with me." The only thing that I'm trying to figure out is if someone really wanted to see a modern day Three Stooges movie. I'm fairly sure this isn't that big a loss. At the very least you can look here and see what you missed.
