Subscribe To Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington Bring Back Buddy-Cop Fun In 2 Guns Updates

The first official trailer for 2 Guns confirms what you probably already assumed about the shoot-them-up buddy-crime thriller. Charismatic Mark Wahlberg and smooth-as-silk Denzel Washington make a tremendous pair, and audiences likely will happily line up and fork over their $15 to watch these two in just about ANYTHING.

What you’ll get out of 2 Guns is this: Wahlberg and Washington play bank robbers who make off with a $40 million haul in the trailer’s opening scenes … only both men have secrets to share. Washington, we learn, was a DEA agent, while Wahlberg was Special Forces. Now the two men must team up to find out who set them up during the bank job – leading to an explosive showdown with all sorts of armed goons.

I’m hard pressed to pick out my favorite part of this entertaining trailer. I love the way Wahlberg keep repeating “together” as Washington attempts to brush him off. I love the way Bill Paxton (!!!) butchers the English language as a dim-bulb antagonist. I love the use of All Along the Watchtower. I love all of it. Just, all of it.

Maybe fans of the graphic novel on which 2 Guns is based knew what to expect. But I’m unfamiliar with director Baltasar Kormákur, and despite a polish by David O. Russell (who once was rumored to direct), the story of 2 Guns could have played as generic, explosive pap. This trailer changes my mind.

2 Guns will be in theaters on Aug. 2. Here’s the official synopsis, but tell us what you think of the new trailer:
“Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in 2 Guns, an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.

For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.

When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.”
