A third hand rumor has been swirling around the internet today saying that Tim Burton is currently developing a sequel to A Nightmare Before Christmas. According to the original report, Paul Reubens, while promoting his Broadway production of Pee Wee's Playhouse, told a reporter that while he would like to work with Burton again, the director is far too busy. Within that conversation, Reubens also slipped in the idea that the director was developing a second movie for Jack Skellington. Fortunately, the rumor is false. The Playlist was able to get in touch with producer and Tim Burton Productions executive Derek Frey, who has quashed the story, saying that there's "no truth to the rumor."
Obviously this is good news. The reason that the story was so believable is because original Burton projects have been so few and far between in recent years, but A Nightmare Before Christmas 2 would be nothing more than a cash grab. Now we just have to hope that no studios see the original story and think, "Wow, that sounds like a great idea!"
