Like seeing tutu-clad ladies and dudes smuggling grapes prancing around on stage set to some boring classical music? Yeah, me too. But for those of you who don't, those ever creative lads over at New Line are strapping guns and missiles to the classic Christmas tale of The Nutcracker.

So maybe there won't be guns or missiles in the upcoming big screen adaptation, but according to the THR article, the pitch from Darren Lemke looks to add an “action-adventure” element to the already mildly adventurous story. The story of Clara and her seemingly alive Christmas gift is not necessarily ripe for action, but there are scene that could be expanded upon to make for an interesting visual treat for moviegoers. Lemke's relatively short resume seems to be growing quickly after his work on yet another upcoming Shrek film, as he's already got four more projects lined up including The Nutcracker.

The story of The Nutcracker is timeless and hasn't even appeared on screen since 2001, and even then it was just the ballet, not a narrative. With expert guidance, some creativity, and a proper release date, this project has potential for greatness. My real question is, what are they going to do for the soundtrack? My vote: Trans-Siberian Orchestra all the way.
