Danish director Susanne Bier has won worldwide acclaim with one compelling family drama after another. In 2004 there was Brothers, a love triangle tale that earned an American remake with Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire. Then came After the Wedding, which memorably starred Mads Mikkelsen and earned an Oscar nod. Snd then 2010 brought In a Better World, which actually won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. But after so much heartbreaking drama, it seems Bier craved a break, or perhaps a new challenge.

Bier co-wrote and directs Love is All You Need a romantic comedy in English and Danish that stars Irish leading man Pierce Brosnan and Danish actress Trine Dyrholm as an odd couple thrown together by fate, but held together by an undeniable attraction. Take a peak at Bier's latest below thanks to its UK trailer:

In Love is All You Need, Dyrholm stars as Ida, a hairdresser who has lost her hair to cancer and the love of her husband to another woman. Fragile and frustrated, she travels to Italy to attend her daughter's wedding, but along the way meets the curmudgeonly but handsome Philip (Brosnan), who just so happens to be the father of the groom. They decide to travel together, and as conflicts arise between couples old and new, these two begin to spark an unexpected romance.

I have to admit, the trailer is a bit all over the place, but it has an energy that reminds me of the old school romantic comedies of Cary Grant. Dyrholm and Brosnan share a compelling chemistry, and as I've never seen one of Bier's comedies, I must admit, I'm curious.

Love is All You Need will open in the UK on April 19th; a US release will follow on May 3rd.
