What if you could relive any moment until it was perfect? This is the question at the center of writer-director Richard Curtis's latest romantic comedy, which boasts a clever sci-fi twist. This time round, the mind behind such winsome romances as Love Actually, Notting Hill, and Four Weddings and a Funeral centers his love story on a gawky 21-year-old man named Tim (Anna Karenina's Domhnall Gleeson), whose just learned that his unique DNA allows him to time travel at will.
In the recently released international trailer, Tim's father (Love Actually's Bill Nighy) explains that you can't do anything grandiose like "kill Hitler or shag Helen of Troy." But you can relive little moments, getting a second chance at that flubbed flirtation or nailing that perfect first date. (In both ways that can be taken.) So, Tim decides to use his newfound powers to win the girl of his dreams (Rachel McAdams). But as you can see in the newly unveiled domestic trailer above—courtesy of Yahoo—the butterfly effect is not something to take lightly.
It's sort of funny that this marks the second time McAdams has played a woman in love with a time traveler, but unlike the abysmal adaptation A Time Traveler's Wife, About Time looks like it will be a bit of terrific, blending romance and humor with Curtis' finely tuned sense of pathos. McAdams is charming as ever in this trailer, and it's thrilling to see Gleeson, who was extraordinary in Anna Karenina as the love-struck Levin, in a lead role like this one. Together they are a quirky couple that's easy to root for.
About Time will open in the US on November 8th.
