Spawn 2 Still Possible

Todd McFarlane is really, really attached to Spawn. I mean, I guess you can't blame him-- the 1997 movie was based on comics he created, and presumably he made some money from it despite that fact that it made a whopping $54 million. But it's still surprising to hear, even from this guy, that a Spawn 2 is still in the works.

"It'll get made," McFarlane promised GamePro.com. And he plans to be the guy in the director's seat as well. "Why not me? I've been living with this movie in my head for a long time. I don't feel like trying to convey what's in my brain to somebody else...it would take too long. I can just do it myself. And people aren't adverse to it. You know, Frank Miller is directing his stuff now."

McFarlane says his goal would be to make a lower budget version of the story, citing the figure $10 million several times (the first Spawn cost $40 million). "If I make it an $80 million budget [Spawn movie sequel], they won't let me direct it...nor would I want to direct it. There are too many guys who are smarter that can do it. But a $10 million dollar creepy movie? I can do that one..."

So do we even want a Spawn sequel? And just because Frank Miller is directing movies, does that mean every comic book artist should be doing the same thing? I'm tempted to tell McFarlane to stick to his day job, but the notion of a $10 million comic book movie is so intriguing that I'd rather see what he comes up with first.
