When the trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey launched on Tuesday, I thought to myself, "I wonder if this means we'll be getting a new production video blog sometime soon." It's a greedy thought for sure (what can I say, the more Hobbit the better), but it was also fairly logical: the fourth video came out all the way back in early November, and while there was a three month gap in between the third and fourth videos, people are talking about The Hobbit more than ever now, so releasing a new blog would be taking advantage of a great opportunity. And, what do you know? Today Peter Jackson published a brand new behind-the-scenes look at his newest film.

Check it out below!

I'm a huge sucker for bonus features on Blu-rays and DVDs, so naturally these videos are like crack to me. They really do impart how ridiculously huge this production is, and the only sad thing is that we're going to have to wait another 12 months before we can actually see the result (and even then it will only be half the story).

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien, tells the story of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he goes on a quest to The Lonely Mountain to retrieve a piece of treasure from a giant dragon called Smaug. The newest Peter Jackson movie will arrive in theaters on December 14, 2012 and, as always, you can find more about the film over in our Blend Film Database.
