Trailer: 17 Again

It's true we'll probably never have another movie that does Big as well as Big did Big-- you can only strike gold by dancing on a piano once, after all. But the combination of sci-fi, nostalgia and family values is back in 17 Again, and skepticism be damned, I'm really looking forward to this one.

Yes, I know it's a Zac Efron vehicle, and I realize the new trailer posted by Moviefone looks impossibly generic even before it shows a white kid dressed "black" for laughs. And it's kind of perplexing how the movie's concept-- middle-aged guy is suddenly turned into his 17-year-old self-- is kicked off by a direct ripoff of It's A Wonderful Life, when the middle-aged guy (Matthew Perry) goes after a man who jumps off a bridge, when he seems ready to jump in himself. Suddenly he's transformed into his younger self, rather than seeing the world as if he'd never been born, but it's really the same thing.

But besides that, the movie looks agreeable and cute, and even though I'm like 50 years too old to appreciate Zac Efron, I like seeing him in this trailer. I'm preapred by be burned because of my optimism, but when we're just in the trailer stage, there's room for blind faith. Check out the trailer below; 17 Again comes out April 17, 2009.
