Though all we've gotten so far in the United States as far as official marketing is the green band trailer that went online last night (the red band one appears to have truly been a leak), in the UK the marketing for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has already arrived in theaters. Twitter user Champ Ceulloid snapped a photo of the teaser poster in a theater in the UK, and you can see it below. Fair warning: it's slightly NSFW, and definitely not an image that's going to be approved for U.S. theaters.
That tag line, "Evil shall with evil be expelled," is apparently the tagline they're getting on the UK trailers instead of our awesome "The feel bad movie of Christmas." And in that photo Daniel Craig looks so craggy that for a second I thought this might be a poster for the original Swedish Dragon Tattoo films, except that's unmistakably baby-faced Rooney Mara under all that eyeliner and, um, piercings. I'm not really sure how I feel about them stripping her down for the very first poster in the film-- though I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given the W photoshoot from earlier this year. And it actually seems to be the exact image described in this interview with Fincher, in which he showed a reporter a mock-up for his ideal poster knowing full well it would never get past censors. Apparently in the UK, it's a-OK, and those of us in the US can at least marvel at the cell phone picture version.
If there are posters for the movie in UK theaters already, I'm wondering if we'll see them pop up on these shores soon too. If you guys spot one, definitely let us know.
UPDATE: The French poster, which is pretty much the same thing but showing less skin, is included below.
