Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is trying to contain an impressive number of secrets as it works its way through production, and certainly on that list is the identity of the character who will be played by Holly Hunter. The Academy Award-winning actress first signed on to the production back in April, but the actress, filmmakers and studio have been playing coy about her role. And while Hunter still won't tell anybody the answer, she has given a few hints away.
The Raising Arizona star recently did an interview with the Wall Street Journal, and during the conversation dropped a few small details about what we will see her doing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While she obviously couldn't say much about the production - jokingly telling the reporter that she doesn't "want anything to happen to [her] kids" - she did share a bit of who she was acting with on set. Asked if she had been doing any work with either of the two titular characters, Hunter said,
While this may seem rather innocuous, it's interesting that it somewhat runs against the rumors that we've been hearing about Holly Hunter's role in the last few months. In April there was a report that said that she would be playing Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a character from Batman comics who was a friend of the Wayne family and served as Bruce's surrogate mother after his parents were killed (and she also knows about his secret work as the Caped Crusader). It's possible that this is a bit of misdirection on Hunter's part, but it's certainly interesting that she makes note of her work with Henry Cavill's Superman before her work with Ben Affleck's Batman - which would be the closer relationship if she were playing Tompkins. If you ask me, Holly Hunter's role is still very much a mystery.
In addition to Hunter, Affleck and Cavill, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, and Jeremy Irons. The film is not only still in production, but still has more than a year of post-production ahead of it in 2015. Of course, we'll be patiently waiting for its release on March 25, 2016, as well as the expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe. In the meantime, feel free to fill the comments sections with all of your guesses regarding who Holly Hunter's character could be - particularly in light of her most recent comments.
