How Samuel L. Jackson Celebrated His First Day On The Incredibles 2

When Pixar recently announced that they were delaying Toy Story 4 the silver lining for fans was that The Incredibles 2 was being moved up. This apparently means that voice over work is currently getting underway. Samuel L. Jackson recently took to social media to announce that he was beginning his recording, which, for the record, means Frozone will be back.

It appears that Samuel L. Jackson is as excited as the rest of us for The Incredibles 2. While Frozone was a small supporting character in the original film, we're glad he'll be back in the sequel. Hopefully, his role will be bigger. While voice over work can certainly take a long time, as even a few lines of dialogue need to be repeated incessantly in order to get it right, we're hoping that the fact that this is the "first" day means that there are several more days in the future, meaning he's got lots of lines.

Although, this does make us wonder a bit about exactly what's going on with Incredibles 2. With the date of release being moved up from the summer of 2019 to the summer of 2018, it appeared that things were moving ahead of the normal schedule. Traditionally voice over work is done prior to animation because animation is done to match the dialogue, not the other way around. It's actually one of the first things that's normally done when production begins. We would have expected all voice work to be done by now if the movie is going to be out in a year and a half. Animation takes awhile.

This doesn't have us worried. Clearly, Pixar would not have recently moved up the release date if they didn't think they could hit it, but it does have us curious. Was Frozone a late addition to the story? If Samuel L. Jackson's part in the story is small or even just separated from the rest of the film in some way it's possible that the work on his section could be ignored while working on other things, and the studio is just now getting to his part.

Whatever the reason, we're glad to see Samuel L. Jackson back to voice Frozone. While director Brad Bird isn't talking about whatever is going on with The Incredibles 2 as far as the story goes, we fully expect to see the entire family back again for a new adventure. The Incredibles is one of the most popular Pixar films ever, and it was one of the best superhero movies ever made, at a time when we didn't get five of them in a year. That may be the film's biggest challenge. To tell a unique and powerful superhero story at a time when every other movie in Hollywood is trying to do the same thing.

The Incredibles 2 is scheduled to hit theaters June 15, 2018. Do you know where your super suit is?
