Jeff Goldblum Teases Laura Dern's Possible Return To The Jurassic Park Franchise

Ellie and Ian in the jeep

There are few blockbusters quite as iconic as at 1993's Jurassic Park. The Steven Spielberg classic is a modern classic, and everything from the dialogue, to the score, to the visual affects have aged extremely well. So well that a new franchise is currently in theaters, with Jurassic World making an insane amount of money when it debuted in theaters in 2015. It's latest sequel is set to arrive shortly, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has the added bonus of bringing Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm back to the franchise. So could other actors return, like Laura Dern? Goldblum recently teased just that, maintaining that her signature character Ellie needs to make a comeback ASAP.

I don't want to pass on gossip like my character. But it would be good news to me and to everyone, [to] millions and billions of people all over the world... all over the universe and cosmos when Ellie Sattler returns.

Just like all the hardcore Jurassic Park fans out there, it looks like Jeff Goldblum is hoping that Ellie Sattler pops back up in the current franchise, sooner rather than later. Now the question is whether Fallen Kingdom director J. A. Bayona managed to include a secret cameo for the Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress. If Goldblum's comments to ET are any indication, it doesn't seem out of the question.

With Ian Malcolm officially popping back up for a small role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it seems like just about any of the original characters are on the table for future installments. Rather than ignoring the first trilogy of films, the current Jurassic Park franchise has acknowledged the franchise's history. Jurassic World brought back B.D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, and the same location of Isla Nubar is used. So Ellie Sattler's reappearance seems all but inevitable.

Laura Dern played Ellie Sattler with grit, vulnerability and grace in Jurassic Park, and has remained a fan favorite for the franchise. While she was absent for The Lost World: Jurassic Park, she eventually popped back up for a small role in the threequel. Rather than being on the island and helping with the main narrative, it was revealed that Ellie became and author, wife, and mother. She helped get Alan off the island, but it wasn't quite what the fandom was hoping for.

Considering the current trajectory of Laura Dern's career, it would certainly stand to reason that the Jurassic World franchise would want to bring her into play. She just won an Emmy for her performance in HBO's Big Little Lies, which will return for a second season. Additionally, she had an awesome role as Vice Admiral Holdo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The public is very aware of Dern's talents, and they'd no doubt love to see Ellie return to the silver screen.

Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom will arrive June 22, 2018, with Jeff Goldblum and (hopefully) Laura Dern. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
