We only have a few weeks left to wait until the arrival of Deadpool 2 in theaters, but that's apparently just motiviating more weird marketing moves by the upcoming blockbuster. As part of the big trio of Walking Dead shows tonight, the film has launched a series of three TV spots that stitch together as a new green band trailer. Check them out below:
I can't say I've ever seen anything like this before. Tonight AMC had a back-to-back-back lineup of Walking Dead shows, and each one was aired along with a third of the above trailer. The first came during the Season 8 finale of The Walking Dead, the second arrived with the Season 4 premiere of Fear The Walking Dead, and the third was paired with the latest edition of The Talking Dead. Altogether they create a funny albeit familiar new look at Deadpool 2.
If you've been paying attention to the trailers for Deadpool 2 thus far, you probably recognize that a lot of this footage has been previously shown - though certain takes are different thanks to the fact that you can't have R-rated material on AMC (though I'd imagine anything in Deadpool 2 is super tame compared to what's on The Walking Dead). Most of the stuff is pretty ignorable, but I have to say that I actually like the "Manbun is just a millennial mullet" line more than the "Sisterhood of Traveling Pants is pure pornography" bit that was previously advertised.
I will also add that there is kind of a missed marketing opportunity here. In the comics there is actually a prominent zombie version of Deadpool known as Headpool (because he is just a disembodied head), and it would have been cool to see him somehow involved in this connection with The Walking Dead. I suppose they can always do it for Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 2, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Terry Crews, Bill Skarsgard, and more, will be in theaters on May 18th. We'll have a lot more for you about the film as we get closer to the release date, so stay tuned here on CinemaBlend!
