Subscribe To A Star Is Born Songwriter Originally Thought It Didn’t Need Another Remake Updates
The road to awards season has begun, with new and exciting projects making their way to theaters. Bradley Cooper has brought forth prime Oscar bait with the newest adaptation of A Star Is Born, starring he and Lady Gaga. Audiences and critics have been throwing praise at the musical remake, despite following legendary versions starring the likes of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. The new movie features a fantastic soundtrack, all sung by the likes of Cooper and Gaga themselves.
Jason Isbell wrote Jackson Maine's recurring song "Maybe It's Time", and recently revealed why he originally wasn't sure about a third A Star Is Born remake. As the songwriter recently revealed:
It looks like Jason Isbell wasn't convinced that another version of A Star Is Born needed to get made. While this no doubt gave some hardcore cinephiles pause, there doesn't seem to be much comparison being made now that the movie is out. And evidently Bradley Cooper changed Isbell's mind so much that he wrote a song for the film's tortured protagonist.
Jason Isbell's comments to Buzz Feed reference A Star Is Born's long history on the silver screen, which goes back all the way to 1937. While the first film focused on a movie star, it's proceeding remakes revolved around singers, therefore allowing icons Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand to do what they do best. And since Bradley Cooper's version followed the same plot, there are some who thought the acclaimed drama wasn't necessary.
Now that A Star Is Born has arrived in theaters, the musical film has been getting some very positive attention from fans and critics alike. Particular praise has been focused on the performances of its stars. Lady Gaga is making her leading lady debut as Ally, vanishing from her pop star persona to bring the up and comer to life. Bradley Cooper had do to the opposite, and work on his musicianship enough to duet with the likes of Gaga.
Jason Isbell's song "Maybe It's Time" is the recurring theme of the movie, as Jackson Maine is forced to play the single at every gig he has throughout the course of the film. As the song laments about the old ways dying, Jackson's health and career both start to decline. Meanwhile, Ally is given the platform she needed to be a recording artist, adding tension to their relationship and collaboration.
It's hard to imagine A Star Is Born functioning without "Maybe It's Time", so it's good that Bradley Cooper convinced Jason Isbell to change his mind. A Star Is Born is in theaters now. Be sure to check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
