Beauty pageants have never been the forum the world turns to for intellectual debate. In fact, the question and answer portion of the evening is more commonly remembered for the women who ruined their chances rather than the ones who proved themselves. It’s almost a gotcha-type situation, but with a little common sense, some rational thoughts and the confidence to answer quickly and motor ahead, a girl can easily get through it.
Unfortunately for Miss Utah, during last night’s Miss USA Pageant, she didn’t display any common sense, offer any rational thoughts or answer quickly and confidently. Asked what it says about society that more women are becoming primary breadwinners yet still making less than their male counterparts by I Dream Of Nene star Nene Leakes, the contestant offered a rambling, idiotic response that involved education, a long pause, job creation and the bizarre phrase “create education better”.
You can read the full text of the exchange below…
Nene: A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners; yet, they continue to earn less then men. What does this say about society?
She could have talked about how much society is evolving and why the business world should catch up. She could have talked about how women are proving more and more valuable, and they should start asserting their leverage at the bargaining table. She could have talked about how society as a whole does a poor job of prizing and glorifying certain skill sets women can bring to the table. She could have said damn near anything that wasn’t the above gibberish and potentially won the title. Instead, she finished fourth and will go down as yet another goofy beaty pageant footnote without any chance of competing in Miss Universe.
Because it’s Monday and because Miss Utah doesn’t deserve to feel like the only person in a sad beauty pageant boat, here’s a look at Miss South Carolina’s confusing answer about maps from a few years back…
