Chris Brown is no stranger to legal trouble. But the R&B musician has found himself in an unusual bit of legal distress, and it involves his pet monkey. As it is being reported, Chris Brown could face serious jail time for owning this animal. Brown is battling this legal trouble among other serious charges.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Chris Brown is being charged by the Los Angeles City Attorney on two counts of "having a restricted species without a permit." If he is convicted, Brown could be facing the maximum sentence of six months in jail for these unorthodox criminal charges.
The trouble began when Chris Brown posted a video of the baby capuchin monkey, which is named Fiji, next to Brown's 3-year-old daughter, Royalty. The musical artist drew quite a bit of controversy for the video, which some people felt showed Brown put his young daughter in serious danger by placing the child in such close contact with the exotic animal. Brown didn't think that it was such a big deal, but it soon became one for him.
Soon enough, the video drew the attention of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. They hosted their own investigation and found that Chris Brown was reportedly breaking the law by hosting the animal in his possession, since he didn't have a permit for the monkey. Since then, they got the authorities involved, and they were planning to get a search warrant and raid the musician's house. But Chris Brown decided to volunteer the monkey to the authorities readily, which might or might not help in his legal trouble for this particular matter. But that won't be decided for a while.
The legal matter won't be determined until 2019, however. Chris Brown is expected to appear in court for this particular matter on February 6th. Until then, it's unclear what the situation will be for Brown, though it doesn't help that the artist is dealing with quite a few legal headaches at this moment. Earlier this year, for instance, Chris Brown was in court over a sexual assault case which allegedly took place in his house. He was also recently under arrest for an outstanding warrant after he performed a concert in Florida during his nationwide tour. He was later released on bond for this jail incident.
