Selma Blair Wants To Put Out Clothing Line For People With MS

Selma Blair - Good Morning America Interview

This past October, Selma Blair made a heartbreaking confession online: she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It came as a sorrow shock to her fans, but the actress remained optimistic in her social media addressm and she expressed thanks and gratitude to the friends, family and co-workers who continued to help her throughout this difficult time. Since then, Blair continued to work on her latest television series, Netflix's forthcoming Another Life, but she had remained quiet on the topic until Oscars Sunday, when she made her way onto the red carpet and provided her first public appearance since the news came out. And she continued to speak out about MS and more during her appearance on Good Morning America.

As Selma Blair stated in another personal interview, she wants to be considered a public spokesperson for this debilitating disease, and the actress hopes to provide opportunities through her fame that have only rarely been given to people with MS before. For instance, Blair wants to start her own MS fashion line, providing clothing options that weren't previously afforded. Here's how Blair explained it:

I would like to partner with someone like Christian Siriano on a line for everyone -- not just people who necessarily need adaptive clothing, but for those who want comfort, too. It can still be chic. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice style. Like, let’s get elastic waistbands to look a little bit better.

As the profile in Vanity Fair notes, Selma Blair has found "a new voice" through her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and it has given the actress a "new inspiration" for her style as well. She believes there's "no tragedy for me" when it comes to this news. While it is most certainly difficult, she is a fighter, and she is going to continue to fight through this early disease. It can be easy to give up after hearing news like the one Blair received, but she wants to push forward and keep going. And she believes that she can use her platform and influence to provide more rich and rewarding opportunities for other people with MS through her newly-proposed fashion line.

That courage and conviction in Selma Blair's spirit was remarked upon by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who worked with Blair previously in Cruel Intentions. During Blair's return to the public spotlight, Gellar wrote the following about her fellow actress:

To say I’m proud would be a gross understatement. When I have a cold, I want to hide from the world under my covers. But not Selma. She is facing this diagnosis, the way she faces everything, with dignity, grace and head on. I know the support and encouragement that she has received on this platform has truly been a source of strength for her. This is not an easy journey, but Selma will not let this define her.

Selma Blair is not giving up, that is for certain. She will continue to persist, and she is hoping to help others along the way. Particularly through this new fashion line.
