Christina Aguilera Says Her New Album Was Inspired By The Voice Contestants

Christina Aguilera just recently announced her departure from NBC’s hit singing competition show, The Voice, but she’s already got a new album in the works. The singer has a brand new album called Lotus planned for November, and she says the whole endeavor was inspired by her work on NBC’s program.

Aguilera recently granted MTV an interview to talk about her upcoming musical endeavors. The 31-year-old singer says seeing all of the avid and wide-eyed contestants, reading and willing to put in day after day of hard work has made her rethink her own position in the musical world.

“[The Voice allowed me to] see through the eyes of aspiring artists at the beginning of their journey, to be part of their journey, to see the hunger in their eyes and to sort of regain some of that back for myself."

Aguilera also calls Lotus a ‘rebirth’ of sorts, with music that acts as a hybrid between the Xtina we know and love, and the women’s newest musical flavors.

"I wanted to make a record that speaks to those fans who grew up listening to my music and yet reintroduce new fans ... watching me on 'The Voice' at 6 years old who don't know about my first record.”

Lotus will feature a brand new side of Aguilera, and even a bunch of slow songs. If you want a sample of the singer’s newest music, you can catch the first single off of Lotus, “Your Body,” on iTunes. Or, you can catch the pop star on The Voice for the next few months, before either Shakira or Usher fills her spot.
