David Fincher and Justin Timberlake are getting back into business together. The Social Network director and actor are collaborating on a new project: the official music video for Timberlake’s musical comeback hit, “Suit & Tie” from his upcoming third studio album, The 20/20 Experience.

Fincher is actually an experienced music video director, but he is a little rusty at the game, as the last music video he shot was created in 2005. Regardless, that video, Nine Inch Nails’ “Only” is just one video in a lengthy body of work that includes Madonna’s “Vogue,” Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun,” and Don Henley’s “The End of Innocence,” among plenty of others. Since Timberlake is returning to music, it’s kind of fitting that Fincher will be returning to directing music videos. It's sort of a comeback within a comeback.

Timberlake’s been planning his big return to music for a while, putting up a countdown for “Suit & Tie,” releasing the audio track, and then immediately planning some live gigs, including an appearance at the Grammys. While “Suit & Tie” hasn’t been a quick and easy Hot 100 hit on the Billboard charts, sometimes a slow and steady groove is a great way to get people talking before an artist puts out a flurry of catchier fodder. We won’t have too much longer to wait to see how the rest of the album pans out. NME is reporting Timberlake’s new album drops on March 19.

Ordinarily, celebrities are better off using their time on whatever activity they’re most skilled at. Given Timberlake’s wonderful voice and surprisingly good acting talent, however, he’s actually probably better off waffling. Here’s to hoping he and Fincher are able to make their return to music videos as amazing as possible.
