Lead Singer Scott Weiland Fired From Stone Temple Pilots
Popular 90s band Stone Temple Pilots has gone through plenty of ups and downs, both commercially and in the band members’ relationships with each another. Lead singer Scott Weiland has especially been at the forefront of numerous squabbles thanks to his substance abuse problems and strong opinions on the band’s sound. Through it all, the core has continually come back together, but if today’s announcement is any indication, an era has officially come to an end.
According to Rolling Stone, Stone Temple Pilots released a one-sentence statement this morning telling members of the media the band has fired Scott Weiland. The news comes just days after the troubled singer denied rumors of a band break-up; so, either he was lying or his termination came as a complete shock to him.
Here’s a look at the official statement…
The exact reason behind the firing is unclear, but there’s a laundry list of possible choices. In addition to the history of substance abuse problems and the history of run-ins with the law, Weiland has also been very vocal about his desire for the band to record a new album rather than put on a tour in which the guys would play a set almost entirely comprised of songs from the first two albums.
Maybe the guys will eventually find their way back together. Maybe they’ll be able to get over the differences and hit the road again a decade or so from now when the wounds have heeled, but for right now, it sounds like they probably will be better off trying something new.
