Misty May-Treanor Discusses Staying Healthy Before London Games

Professional volleyball player Misty May-Treanor may have a mouthful of a name, but when it comes to advice on staying in shape, she keeps it simple. The two-time Olympic Gold Medalist is currently partnered with Arnold and Oroweat Bread for a contest where the winner will be able to participate in a private workout session with her. While most of us won’t get the luxury, May-Treanor still has some easy advice to impart to fans who want to live to their healthiest.

The most important tip for a person to stay in shape is actually pretty easy to accomplish but does require a little time. May-Treanor recently spoke with People to discuss how rest is the most important component of living healthily.

"My number one tip for maintaining a healthy lifestyle would be: Rest, rest, rest, rest, and rest. You should get at least 8 hours of sleep, because at rest is when your body is trying to recover."

Surprisingly, May-Treanor’s other big tip does not involve extensive amounts of exercise. Instead the major exerciser—who once tore her Achilles Tendon while training for Dancing with the Stars--says eating properly, and often, is really the key to living a healthy existence.

“If you're not eating the right foods, it's not going to equal out and you're not going to get the results you want. It's important to eat a meal every few hours because you'll see your energy level stay consistent."

You can catch May-Treanor using her own advice to great effect when the London Games premiere on NBC next on Friday, July 27.
