One Track Sunday: Regina Spektor Gives Inanimate Objects Agency
Regina Spektor did a disappearing act after her 2009 album, Far, but now she is coming back with a bang. The “Fidelity“ singer had a big week, announcing she will be opening on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' tour this spring, as a special guest singer during a few of The Heartbreakers shows scheduled for April and May.
You would think appearing with Tom Petty would be enough news for one week; however, for Spektor it is merely a sideshow to the release of her new single “All the Rowboats,” a frantically paced track about famous paintings and other iconic art coming alive only to attempt to escape from the confines of museum life. While there is no video yet, the picture “All the Rowboats” paints with words and music is ample enough. It’s a strange vision, fortified by the seriousness of Spektor’s voice, as strange as it somber.
Spektor’s new album What We Saw From the Cheap Seats is expected to drop in May.
