Rupert Everett Says Being Raised By 2 Dads Is The Worst Thing In The World

Openly gay actor Rupert Everett is no stranger to alienating himself from the gay community. A few years back, he blamed coming out of the closet for stalling his career and advised GLBT stars to stay quiet about their personal lives. The comment didn’t play very well at all within large segments of Hollywood, and his newest publically uttered opinion won’t do much to help his approval rating.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Everett said his mother raised him to believe children do far better if they’re brought up by straight parents, and he still agrees with her assessment. Here’s a look at part of his quote…
“She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her. I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion.”
In addition to denouncing gay parents, Everett also told the outlet he doesn’t consider himself a member of the gay community and knows his mother would rather he break-up with his boyfriend and have children with a woman. Most people will likely find those comments sad, but the actor doesn’t really seem bothered by it. He just wants to live his own life however he so chooses and doesn’t care what people have to say, which, of course, sounds a hell of a lot like the viewpoint of caring gay parents providing homes for children.
Not surprisingly, GLAAD has already issued a response to Everett’s comments, calling his words “outdated” and hurtful. Something tells me it’ll be a cold day in hell before he apologizes.
