NBC's long-running procedural, Law and Order: SVU is returning for Season 18 and it's going to be kicking things off with a bang. Law and Order: SVU has had no shortage of guest stars in its impressive 17-year run, but the latest one might be their biggest one ever. Vice President Joe Biden will be taking a trip down to New York City to film for Season 18.
According to The Wrap, Law and Order: SVU got the second biggest guest star they could possibly get in the form of Joe Biden. The Vice President will appear as himself in the episode, but unfortunately he won't be joining the team to catch a killer and bust some heads (as far as we know). Instead his scene will consist of a press conference in which he commends Mariska Hargitay's Detective Olivia Benson for her work to end the rape kit backlog. Reportedly, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, and Peter Scanavino will also be in the scene. A large part of me now, more than ever, wants Biden to star in his own cop drama show after his time in the White House is done. He could easily use his TV appearance to promote the fight against domestic abuse, which he's been working on for years, and that would be a worthy cause.
It won't be the first time that Mariska Hargitay and Joe Biden have teamed up over the issue of rape. The two of them have collaborated several times in the past to end violence against women. Earlier this year, Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation gave Biden the Finnegan Award for his work helping women and Hargitay recently voiced the taped package that introduced Biden at the Democratic National Convention just this week. It seems only natural that Biden should appear on Law and Order: SVU given their past philanthropic relationship.
Joe Biden is certainly no stranger to making television appearances. He's made hundreds of appearances at this point on every kind of talk show. His only other role on a fictional show, though, was on Parks and Recreation where he appeared as himself while Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope was visiting Washington D.C. Any fan of Parks and Rec will know of Leslie's crush/obsession with the Vice President, and Biden's amused confusion at her fawning was TV gold.
You can see Joe Biden on Law and Order: SVU in its 18th season, which premieres this fall on Wednesday, September 21. To learn about the rest of your favorite shows, check out of Fall TV Schedule.
